St. Monica Triduum

At St. Dominic’s Church, home of the Shrine of St. Jude, each August is set aside as a special month of celebration and prayer in honor of its great patron, St. Dominic, whose Feast day is August 8. At the conclusion of that month, the Shrine dedicates a three-day Triduum to St. Monica August 25-27. She is also invoked as an intercessor for many needs, from parents of children who do not practice the Catholic Faith to those struggling with addictions. This particular year we invoke her as a mother in time of crisis. A mother is much more than a parent, but is ever concerned in every way for the well-being of her children and family. May we seek St. Monica’s powerful intercession for our families during this most difficult year!
Though still officially closed most of the time because of the pandemic, the Shrine remains very much spiritually open. There are many ways that you may participate in the Triduum, such as by sending in your prayer intercessions and Mass intentions. This year we would particularly recommend sending in votive candle requests to burn before the images of St. Jude and St. Monica at the Shrine. You can also summit your requests online visiting our website page. This is a wonderful way that you may be spiritually present, even if we cannot physically pray together. The church is open for prayer daily from noon to 4:30 pm.
The Triduum homilies this year will be offered by our own pastor of St. Dominic’s Church, Fr. Michael Hurley, O.P. The Masses may be viewed daily during the Triduum at 8:00 am on the parish’s YouTube channel. St. Monica, pray for us!
