Death of Stedman Matthew, Shrine Administrator

Dear Friend of St. Jude:

It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that Stedman Matthew, the long-time administrator and organizational backbone of the St. Jude Shrine at St. Dominic Church, San Francisco, passed away last week. Please pray for the soul of this devoted disciple of Jesus and promoter of St. Jude, the patron of difficult cases. May St. Jude and our Holy Father Dominic, as well as his guardian angel, accompany him as he approaches the Lord Jesus. May he hear the words we all long to hear: “Well done, good and faithful servant, come share your Master’s joy.”

Stedman Matthew’s funeral will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 7 at St. Dominic’s Church, San Francisco. Fr. Xavier Lavagetto, friend and former pastor of St. Dominic’s Church, will be the preacher and presider. Due the COVID-19 crisis, the funeral will not be public. However, if you wish to honor Stedman, certainly he would appreciate simply Masses, votive candles, and donations to the St. Jude Shrine that he served so faithfully.

Fr. Vincent Kelber, Shrine Director, will preside over the burial rites at St. Dominic’s cemetery, Benicia, after the funeral Mass.
